Licensing and insurance

Licensing, Insurance and Coverage

ShipShape Moving is a licensed and insured California moving company. This page lists our permit numbers, explains what protects your belongings during a move, and shows building managers how to get a Certificate of Insurance.

Our license and permit numbers

We operate as a household goods carrier under California permit MTR 0192323, issued by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, and our federal registration is USDOT 3549568. Both numbers are public, so you can check them yourself before you book:

Where a broker or a marketplace listing quotes a price, the number on the truck is what matters. Ours is on every truck and on every estimate we send.

What your move is covered by

Two different things travel with your belongings: liability for loss or damage, which is set by the tariff you choose at booking, and the physical care we take on the day, which is what our crew and equipment are for.

The exact protection included at each rate, and the deductible that applies, are stated on your written estimate before you sign. Nothing on this page replaces the terms on that document.

Coverage options in plain language

Released value

The basic, no-extra-cost level of protection. It pays a set amount per pound per item, which is usually modest on heavy furniture.

Full value protection

A higher level of protection where the carrier is responsible for the repair, replacement or a cash settlement up to a declared value you choose.

Availability, tiers and pricing for each option are confirmed with your estimate rather than quoted from this page.

What a Certificate of Insurance is

A Certificate of Insurance, usually shortened to COI, is a document from our insurer that summarizes our insurance coverage for your building's management company. Many high-rise buildings, storage facilities and business parks will not let a moving truck into the loading dock without one.

We issue COIs at no cost for booked moves. Send us the building's requirements and the management contact, and we return the certificate directly to them.

Request a COI

Use the certificate of insurance request form and we will take it from there. If you are still comparing quotes, see moving rates or read more about ShipShape.
