Move day logistics

Parking Permits and Loading Zones

A moving truck needs somewhere legal to stand. That usually means a temporary no-parking permit from the city, and a little planning a week or two ahead. Here is how the process works across our service area, city by city.

Why parking matters on move day

Two things go wrong when a truck has nowhere to park: the crew carries your furniture further, which costs billed time, and the truck can sit where it should not, which risks a ticket or a tow in the middle of your move. Reserving the space removes both problems.

The goal is simple: a legal, empty stretch of curb outside your door, wide enough for a moving truck and long enough that the crew can lay out ramps and walk a clear path.

How to reserve a space

  • Find out who owns the street: the city public works or transportation department for most residential streets, or the building's management for a private driveway or loading dock.
  • Ask what the city needs: many require an application, a fee and a few working days of notice, and some ask you to post signs yourself.
  • Tell us the plan: send us the permit details, or the building's loading dock rules, and we will aim the arrival window at them.
  • Post and protect the space: cones or signs put out the evening before are far more effective than a sign placed as the truck arrives.
  • Keep a plan B: if the spot is taken, a shuttle or a longer carry may be needed, and we confirm that before the crew starts rather than after.

Permit fees and notice requirements can change. Confirm the current rules with the relevant city department before arranging your move.
